This is another Kwik Trip drawing. It was a contour drawing, but it was the snowy roofs that caught my eye, so at home I filled in--made up--the shadows.

i'm thinking of continuing to push for simplicity - i want to do some 3-tone, 3 shape sketches, just to get a better grasp of composition. the tones would be: black, paperwhite, and gray. the shapes would be something like: sky, background shape, and a foreground object. i think the image has to stretch out a singular space for itself in your mind. otherwise, it's a jumble of details that fall onto the paper with no order or control. i believe the key to this is simplicity.
