Ok. Jonah is near an dear to my heart for a number of personal reasons. I love him because I act a lot like him. And God, like Jonah, used a really bad experience to make me break my will- or maybe better bend my will to his?
So i have this vision in my head. It's not quite out yet. Here is the progression.
Please note the key ingrediants i need in this image: A pirate ship lookin boat- but not so pirate"y". Arrrrrggggg! Choppy waves and sea foam, but smooth stylized lines for water. A giant fish. A helpless Jonah. ALSO i would like to have clouds in the back ground, showing the storms breaking.
Help me out here guys. Take your own shot at this image. I'd be interested to see what you do- or even copy mine and add to it.
Great idea. We are all Jonahs, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteI like the ingredients, especially the ship on the waves/tail combo with the serpentine fish and how the whole design tends to close back in on itself--like the fish's maw on Jonah. I Ike the top one best, I would keep Jonah small and make the fish's mouth larger, less carp-like.
Have you thought about designing this as a stained-glass window? A different kind of challenge with all the pieces.
Keep on with more iterations, and keep us posted. "I wouldn't dare touch your art," but I may try my own version. I see Jonah inside.
3rd jonah is rockin it! as for composition, i like the 2nd one best. i think it's good that the fish is the centerpiece and your eyes slowly rotate and fill in the storyline. this is definitely your style. perhaps think of what a man in a 1-piece outfit would look like when sinking under water. would his body drop down as his garment drags behind his motion, upward? or would it cling to his body? or is he yet in flight, being recently flung from the boat? should there be a few angry fists on the boat? dad can comment on this - what was the sail style at the time? the square pirate sails may be a British design, or similar.
