FF T-23
I have always loved trees. Now after my self-assignment to draw 50 I am madly in love with them. They are each a stroke of divine genius. The variety, the complexity, the graceful and gnarled forms, sometimes in one tree, the textures, the colors--and way more. I recommend it. I've been studying only a few different trees at a time. Ones I know. Until I know them intimately. So far I did 12 Box Elder pix--twigs, seeds, trunks, not even trying the whole thing yet. I'm getting to know them, their characteristics and their quirks. Ted K and old John F. Carlson were right. Study them until you know them. They forgot to mention the bonus--it's great fun. Plus, studying trees seems appropriate for this week.

oooh, the walnut and the woodpile. much of that walnutty stain ended up on my pants as a youth.
ReplyDeletegood bark and dramatic woodpile shadows. you just can't draw a scene without good dramatic lighting. i like to take the lighting that's there, and stretch it, so the darks are as dark as possible, and the lights are bright white sunlight. although sometimes, you get up early in the morning, and it really does look like that.
