So a new sketchbook. The first is carbonicles - it actually does pretty well for that "fog" effect, which is what was going on that day. We also have a house, a curb and some neat tower-y things that are in WhiteMan Bay outside the Oasis bank - all in rootish 4B. Snow escapes me. Also, instruments.

finally got some gas for the scanner
So here we are, a van, some locals waiting for the bus, and back to the roots. I think I missed the snow bus, though. Anyway, this completes the first sketchbook! On to the next!

simplified
I went back to Jonah. That image still hasn't been "realized." I think I lack the reference images for a"by memory" sketch, and i lack the ability to accomplish photo realism in drawing to accomplish it. I also think Ratio is a huge element to making this composition look good. I don't have that either. So i started playing with different ways to express the idea. Then i was watching an episode of LA Ink (a show about a tattoo shop) and i thought about tribal art. that's what lead to the second image. What do you think?

KEEPING AT IT CHALLENGE "Roots & Snow"
Let's return to our first favorite medium--graphite pencil. See if it has changed since we've been away.
Let's draw snow--before it's all gone and I don't ever see it again. Should be easy--leave the paper white. (So I guess we're drawing around snow.)
Got your drawing book along? Everybody's got five minutes! Get the first line down on the page.
Til Roots-Snow Saturday--March 20 (Spring!). Post at will.
