chalk soup

my humble offering....a very quick sketch, but one with some color. I honestly think, after trying it both ways, that the way to capture the "simplifying" aspect of this challenge is to use color. Otherwise, with black and white, i found it too difficult to find the right black tone for the color "red" or for any other color for that matter. So i ended up reducing everything to a back basic cylinder shape, with a single light source....you all know the drill there.

  2. Color! Bravo! Courageous!

    I felt the same way--that I couldn't really say "Campbell's" without red.

I like how you caught the snap-lid with so few strokes--believable with simplicity.

A comment on your perspective: The white lines of the label should be following the same curve of the top of the can. The bottom curve of the can should be the same curve as the top. It helps to think of the whole thing as a slinky.

(If you had a glass cylinder the same proportions of the can you would be able to see that the bottom curve is actually a slightly wider oval than the top because you are looking down on it a tad more than you are on the lid. The differences are quite slight, and can be ignored with impunity.)
