Different guys use different ways to "get out of the picture." Some fade out before they reach the edges of the paper (Ted K and Ernest W), others, like this, go right off. But I do think it's good to be consistent in one drawing.
PS I think your "long-strokes technique" fits this subject perfectly, and needs to be kept in your quiver for when needed.

works for me - i'll scabberdize that technique.
