these are sketches
Well, one looks semi-decent this week. Incidentally, it was not from the usual spot. Tracy had to be at school early, so I had a few extra time units. Rushing is perhaps a weakness for me. Sorry I didn't make it to the challenge, but if these are all "out my car window" does that count?

The posting date is next Saturday. I'm glad, too. I have none to post at this point. Just desk effluvia, or car windows.
ReplyDeleteI especially like your city-scape on top. A nice "set" of real buildings. Bold, but believable, perspective, going up and off! I like the dark building with the large windows--a nice foil to the light building with the canopy. I love these kinds of old buildings.
Is that Holton or Teutonia or where?
Sometimes, I think, a curb-line between sidewalk and road helps "ground" the buildings. Or a grass line. Some hint of foreground.
Nice pencil work on the second pic. John F. Carlson would be pleased to be able to recognize a particular kind of tree.
Nice bush-wall-window still life on the bottom.
3rd street, somewhere south of north. yeah, no sidewalk - how do these things happen!?
ReplyDeleteJohn Carlson (I have his classic book) is an American Impressionist. And teacher. He says you need to study your whole life, and get to know the particular kind of tree you are drawing, and the particular tree you are drawing of that kind, that one, right there. To look at some his own workings out of that notion try: http://store.encore-editions.com/artist/johnfabiancarlson.html
ReplyDeletePete,
ReplyDeleteyour second building from the left on the first drawing ROCKS!
The more i see your drawings the more i am starting to like the flat lead style...it works for you. I also see your sketches getting better and better... in my opinion
