The bottom pic was done with three pencils, 2B, HB, & 2H; gives more of a photo finish. I think if I tried REAL hard I could make a picture come close to a black and white photo. I don't want to . . .
A camera can do that better and a lot faster. And then I am in the wrong art. I want to draw something that looks like a drawing, something fetching, arresting, if I can, but something that remains the art of the pencil, not the lens. I'm not particularly happy with the top two pix. I am still searching for a pencil voice.
PS The top two are the same scene, a few feet apart. Parked in front of the dentist two days running.
is that a reflection of a subaru? how much of the top one is reflection? kinda neat trying to figure it out. the middle one has a great sense of volume and wonderful foliage. my foliage gets too heavy. and as for the barrel, i agree. but it's a very nice barrel, anyway.
The big square in the top one is a huge hole in the wall, not a window. Some kind of drive-thru. The dark branches in the drive-thru are the rest of the dark tree above the buiding.
I really like the one done with three pencils. And i agree. To see the hand of the artist in the picture is what makes drawing and painting, even sculpting, so different from snapping a picture.
I used to feel bad about that i couldn't draw super realistic images. I still want to be able to do that just for the sake of my own skill, but i believe that if i even reach that goal, i'll quickly soon abandon it to something more expressive!
